The City Council launches a web application to track diversions due to works on the A-5
The Madrid City Council has launched a new web application that allows users to consult real-time traffic closures and diversions caused by the A-5 undergrounding works, part of the Southwest Green Boulevard project. This tool will be especially useful for residents of the Latina district, southern municipalities, and those accessing the city via the Príncipe Pío interchange, as it improves route planning and daily commutes.
The website features a 2D interactive map with satellite imagery, up-to-date traffic status data, access to DGT cameras, and 3D models of the affected urban area. It also displays alternative routes designed by the Mobility Department, helping users avoid construction zones and reduce travel times.
Additionally, a citizen service office has been set up at the El Greco Cultural Center (Latina), where residents can get information, ask questions, and learn more about the project through a scale model. Meanwhile, the official Southwest Green Boulevard website provides details on the undergrounding project, its phases, the tendering process, and now links directly to the new traffic monitoring application.
The undergrounding of the A-5 will free up 3.2 km of surface area to create a large green boulevard connecting with Madrid Río, improving pedestrian mobility, adding a two-way bike lane, and significantly reducing traffic and pollution in the area.
